CANON: The World Ends With You
CANON HISTORY: Shiki's Wiki
CANON PERSONALITY: Shiki, as a whole, seems like the absolute "It" girl. She's fashionable, she's perky, she's fun and she knows all of the right things to say at the right times. She's always up-to-date with the latest trends and the latest gossip; actually, Shiki seems to be the only one who actually cares about the trends going on in Shibuya. She's a very friendly girl, believing that everybody deserves a chance to be heard, and she does her best to make sure she can help people in any way that she can. She constantly serves as a driving force not only for Neku (her partner in the Reaper's Game), but also for Beat and Rhyme. She encourages the latter, assuring her that she'll see her brother again soon. As for the former, well, she continually badgers Neku to keep moving and keep talking. She's the one who really gets him to open up toward the end of their week together and teaches him the value of communication and partnership.
On that same note, though, she's not a girl who believes in little white lies. Shiki is rather blunt and she'll say what she feels whether it'll hurt the feelings of those around her or not. (Case in point, she had no problem telling Neku "Just LOOKING at you makes me cringe!") Some people might find her to be a bit nosy, seeing how she asks a lot of questions and demands to get to the bottom of people. She can be invasive, and she doesn't really believe in boundaries. That much is obvious considering how she had no problem stripping Neku in the middle of the street to fix a button on his shorts.
But...for all of the talking she does about being honest and how she wishes Neku would let her in, Shiki has a few secrets of her own. The perky persona, for the most part, was actually an act. The real Shiki is a girl who feels inferior to those around her, feeling like she has to hide who she really is and portray the personality of her best friend, Eri. Eri was always the popular one and the creative one with everything Shiki ever wanted. Despite the amazing talents she possesses, especially her ability to sew, Shiki feels like she doesn't measure up and she's jealous of those around her. She herself claims that "All I wanted was to like myself. To be cute, and smart, and perfect...like Eri." Her entry fee for the Game grants her her wish, forcing her to give up her own appearance and take on that of Eri.
As the game goes on though, Shiki soon realizes an important lesson; "It was just an act. Inside, nothing changed. I'm still the same person I've always been. Then I realized...I'll never be Eri. Deep down, I never wanted to be. I was just jealous. The Reaper was right. What I value most is ME!" Deep inside, she's really just a scared girl putting on a brave face, but with the encouragement from her friends, she realizes they like her the way she is and give her the confidence to keep moving.
SKILLS/ABILITIES: As a Player in the Reaper's Game, Shiki's able to use a Psych that allows her to control her stuffed cat, Mr. Mew, in a form of telekinesis.
-She also has a high-jump ability that none of the other characters seem to have in-game.
-She excels in sewing and also has a good handle on fashion design.
-Shiki's main skill though is to get anybody to talk to her and gain their trust. She's a good listener capable of giving good advice and she's passionate about helping people.

CHARACTER: AU SECTION
AU NAME: Eri Sakuraba
AU AGE: 16
PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: Canonically at the end of the game, Shiki's appearance gives her short brown hair, brown eyes, and glasses while dressing in a low-key style that covers her. The physical differences in this AU will adhere more toward her Reaper Game look, which is long red-pink hair (shoulder-length), red-brown eyes and a tendency to dress in trendier, revealing clothing.

The physical differences in this AU will adhere more toward her Reaper Game look, which is long red-pink hair (shoulder-length), red-brown eyes and a tendency to dress in trendier, revealing clothing.
AU HISTORY: Eri Sakuraba was born as an only child to her parents who weren't exactly ready to have a child in the first place. As such, while her parents were still growing up themselves, this left Eri to learn how to be independent and grow up on her own. From the time she learned to walk until now she essentially raised herself and taught herself how to cook, clean, and take care of things that her parents sometimes slipped up on while they were working to support her family. Often times she was left to her own devices and at an early age she came to find she loved drawing and coloring. She took a particular interest in recreating and upcycling hand-me-downs to give her appearance its own unique look. Creativity was something that didn't require much money and therefore Eri felt that this was the best path for her and her family.
Despite coming from a less-than-wealthy background, this fact didn't keep Eri down and she went out of her way to be kind to people. As such, Eri was very popular in all of her classes. Still, sometimes she was embarrassed about her life situation and didn't feel that people truly understood, so she only kept a few close friends. So many people wanted to befriend her because she was trendy and full of ideas, but Eri realized that not many people knew the real her or even particularly wanted to get to know the real her. Sometimes Eri herself wasn't sure who the real her was but she still carried herself with confidence and the ability to encourage others to break out of their shell and embrace the world around them.
Though Eri has always been the time to reach out to people who look like they could use a hand, that didn't mean she was always great at it at first. One of these people was a special boy who used to shut out everyone in the world, but he knew how to create the most beautiful pieces of art. He never liked sharing his with anybody and thought other people's opinions didn't matter, but in middle school he and Eri met and were forced to work together on a class art project. As two creative minds with drastically different personalities, at first they grated on each other's nerves, but over time they grew closer and learned to overcome their differences. To this day she considers him to be her best friend above all else and will sacrifice herself and her happiness to make sure he won't revert to his old self.
Despite the fact that she had lived in Recollé all her life, she never thought about leaving. The city is one that she loved with her whole being and her dream since she was a little girl has been to own her own boutique in The Towers. She spent a large part of her childhood windowshopping there and drawing inspiration from other shops and models around the city. It's only in the recent years that she started really creating her own clothing by teaching herself how to sew and bring her ideas to life from sketches.
But she's still young. At game-start, she's 16 years old and just barely old enough to have a job as a sales clerk at a clothing store. The bright side, at least, is that her best friend doesn't work too far away. That makes it all a little more bearable.
AU PERSONALITY: While there aren't a lot of differences from the core of who Shiki is as a person, there are a significant few:
-The main difference is that this version of Shiki is much more confident than her canon counterpart.
-Having not died and without the influence of a girl she's so painfully jealous of, Shiki's less likely to hide things from people. She's more open and honest.
-Additionally she's more cheerful and upbeat much like the facade she pulled from her canon. Canonically, this was just an act but in her AU these are her true feelings.
-She's kinder to people but she struggles much less with finding her own identity. She's a little more patient than her canon counterpart considering she's lived a life without impending doom lurking over her.
-This also means she's not quite as blunt and easy to frustrate!
-This version of Shiki has more self-love than her canon-counterpart. She believes in her talents more and she's more likely to follow her dreams, but she also hasn't learned just how much she values herself and her friendships with people.
-She has yet to learn how influential she is outside of the superficial levels and she has room to grow into being able to draw strength from her own willpower rather than ride on the good energies of other people.
-One of the other biggest differences is Shiki's artistic talent. Canonically she's incredibly good at sewing, often carrying a sewing kit in her belt pouch and even catching the eye of her best girl friend who was envious of her skill. In this AU, Shiki's just starting to learn how to use a sewing machine and is more likely to handsew buttons and prick her fingers a few times on accident.
